“A Festival Celebrating the Natural Environment of the Myall Coast”
A weekend of mostly outdoor activities making the most of the balmy spring weather and the stunning beauty of the wildflowers and waterways of the Myall.
The Hawks Nest Wildside Festival is a Community Event, a weekend of activities featuring guided walks through the spectacular wildflowers and the natural environment surrounding the Hawks Nest Area…… We hope you will come along and enjoy the best that the Myall Region can offer.
The weekend includes: · Walks, talks and displays about local koala’s and birdlife · Historical Talks - books - information · evening spotlighting and stargazing walks (koala spotting etc)
The activities will be mostly centred around the Hawks Nest “Old” Library, the Community Hall and the adjacent park. The planned program includes:
Friday 16th September 7pm (Gold Coin Donation) * Spotlighting Walk (1-1½ Hours) Friday night led by Christian Patteson – Walk leaves from Hawks Nest Newsagency 7pm - Squirrel gliders, owls, spiders and perhaps even a koala
Saturday 17th September Kayaking and canoeing: Myall Classic, one of the ‘Big Three’ flatwater marathon races in Australia (along with the Hawkesbury Classic and the Murray Marathon). Three distances and multiple classes from juniors to veterans to choose from. Registration from 7:30am, paddling starts at 9am on the Tea Gardens waterfront. Proceeds to Cure for Life Foundation. Community Displays: wildflowers, arts & crafts, Lioness Club and Rural Fire Service plus photography competition display at the Hawks Nest community hall – free!
Audio/visual Talks in the “Old” Library, Hawks Nest (free) ¨ Birds of the Myall (10am) ¨ Hawks Nest Koalas (11am) ¨ Rural Fire Service (1pm) ¨ Platypus Awareness Conservation Team (2pm)
Guided Walks commencing from the park in front of the Community Hall - Free! ¨ Family walk including fun and games for the kids (10am) ¨ Koala spotting around the “Magic Square” of Hawks Nest (Noon) ¨ Michael Rowe Memorial Wildflowers Walk – the best display on the east coast (2pm)
Family Fun Night on Saturday evening 5-8pm at Tea Gardens Hotel/Motel. Set price adult and kids meals and entertainment.
Sunday 18th September
Cycling: Ride the Wildside - Three cycling routes: a family-friendly ride around Hawks Nest, an intermediate return ride to Little Gibber and an enthusiasts’ return ride to Bombah Point. Registration from 8:30 am at the Surf Club, rides at 9:30. Sponsored by the RTA for NSW Bike Week. Guided Walk commencing from the park in front of the Community Hall - Free! ¨ Swan Bay Wildflowers (10am) Sausage Sizzle following the cycling at Hawks Nest Golf Club (included for Registered Riders)
