Walk on the Wild Side is a Community Event, organized by a committee of local community groups - a weekend of activities featuring guided walks through the spectacular wildflowers and the natural environment surrounding the Hawks Nest Area…...We hope you will come along and enjoy the best that the Myall Region can offer. The weekend includes: · Walks, talks and displays about local koala’s and birdlife · Historical Talks - books - information · evening spotlighting and stargazing walks (koala spotting etc)
The activities will be mostly centred around the Hawks Nest “Old” Library, the Community Hall and the adjacent park. The planned program includes:
Friday 20th August 7pm (Gold Coin Donation) * Spotlighting Walk (1-1½ Hours) Friday night led by Christian Patteson – Walk leaves from Hawks Nest Newsagency 7pm
Saturday 21st August
Displays in the Hawks Nest Community Hall and Annexe from 10am to 4pm (free) * Christian Patteson wildflower display * U3A Art Group Art Exhibition focusing on wildflowers, wildlife and local scenery Displays in the park outside the Hawks Nest Community Hall 10am to 4pm * Historical Society display of the history of the Myall Lakes region * Community Technology Centre – display of Services and local history books * U3A – stall selling plants and an artwork raffle * Progress Association - information stall * Cycling Task Force – Stall promoting Ride on the Myall Coast event * Lady Lionesses display table * Red Cross Cake Stall * Family Research Group displays and advice on researching family history * Native Animal Trust Fund wildlife display, including live rescued animals

Audio/visual Talks in the “Old” Library, Hawks Nest (free) 10:00am - History of Tea Gardens and Hawks Nest (Historical Society) 11:00am – Wildlife rescue, rehabilitation and release (Native Animal Trust Fund) Noon – Myall Lakes National Park and Marine Park (NPWS & Max Haste) 2:00pm – Birds of the Myall (Hal Wootten) 3:00pm – Hawks Nest Koalas (Ian & Gail Morphett)
Guided Walks (1-1½ Hours) commencing from the park in front of the Community Hall (free) 10:00am – Koala spotting around the “Magic Square” (Christian Patteson) 10:30am – Swan Bay Wildflowers (Jill Madden & Anne Haskew) 11:00am – Michael Rowe Memorial Walk Wildflowers (Helen Dauncey)
Family Fun Night on Saturday evening 5-8pm at Tea Gardens Hotel/Motel. Set price adult and kids meals and entertainment including a piano player, magician and reptile expert.
Sunday 22nd August
Guided Walk (Longer bushwalk 2-3 hours) 10:00am - Commencing from the park in front of the Community Hall (free) showcasing beach, heath & wetland wildflowers - Peter & Helen Brown)
